What We Do
Green Building | Solar 101 | Community Engagement
Build San Antonio Green is a 501(C)(3) that works with builders and developers to certify green homes in San Antonio. Our Goal is to create awareness and interest among the builders and the homeowners in resource-efficient building methods, materials, and technologies. We do this primarily through our program and the certification of homes as green. We also educate home owners and buyers so they can make informed choices to reduce energy and water consumption and work with our Partners to create programs for air quality improvement, water conservation, energy efficiency and renewable energy.
Build San Antonio Green was founded by Bill Sinkin in 2001. Build San Antonio Green manages a nationally award winning residential green certification program that has certified over 5100 projects to date resulting in 9.72 MW of Peak Demand Reduction and 63 million lbs of CO2 to be saved since it’s inception 14 years ago.
Our Mission is to protect and enhance the quality of life of the citizens of the metropolitan San Antonio Area by developing standards by which to certify newly constructed and existing structures to green standards, and to provide leadership, expertise, and education for the wise, efficient, and sustainable use of energy and resources.
As of July 2015 we are excited to have officially merged with our sister organization, Solar San Antonio. Founded in 1999 by William “Bill” Sinkin, Solar San Antonio has served as a champion for Solar and Renewable Energy usage here in San Antonio as well as a public resource for information about solar technology. To date Solar San Antonio has helped to facilitate the installation of 1.78 MW of Solar PV systems through the Bring Solar Home Program.
The success and mission of Solar San Antonio will now be carried on through the work of Build San Antonio Green. Our organizations share a very similar mission to promote the wise and efficient use of resources and renewable energy. The decision to merge the organizations will result in both greater efficiency and economy in the management of our programs, creating a stronger, more stable entity to accomplish the goals of both organizations.
The organizations will continue under the Build San Antonio Green name. We have plans to expand our certification program as we begin to look beyond the building, working with partner organizations such as SAWS and SARA as well as the City of San Antonio’s Office of Sustainability to promote sustainability initiatives like Low Impact Development and SA Tomorrow. The Bring Solar Home program will also see some changes as we hope to expand our resources to connect citizens to all of the options available for going solar.
