City now accepting nominations for the 2017 SA Tomorrow Sustainability Awards – Deadline Extended to Oct. 27th!

The City of San Antonio and the Office of Sustainability are accepting nominations for its third annual SA Tomorrow Sustainably Awards. Local businesses will be recognized for using innovative ways to make sustainability an integral part of their business practice. Organizations will be judged on their ability to implement the three pillars of sustainably that include social, economic and environmental breakthroughs. Nominations can be submitted via sanantonio.gov/sustainability through October 27, 2017. Winners will be announced on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 during a special awards ceremony at City Council Chambers.

“Businesses that are taking the initiative to recognize the importance of being environmentally responsible are positive leaders in our community,” said City Manager Sheryl Sculley. “These awards showcase the very best of San Antonio’s commitment to sustainability and innovation as well as highlighting and celebrating our accomplishments as we implement the SA Tomorrow Sustainability Plan.”

The SA Tomorrow Sustainability Awards honor programs, projects and building structures that promote sustainability and engagement with San Antonio residents within their surroundings. Each category cover projects that support the goals of the SA Tomorrow Plan in the areas of energy; food system; green buildings and infrastructure; land use and transportation natural resources; public health; and solid waste resources.

Organizations can submit nominations in the following categories:

  • New Commercial and Residential Construction and Retrofit Projects
  • Sustainable Programs and Initiatives 
  • Industry Leaders in Sustainability (Organizational/Individual Practitioners)
  • Solar Projects

“This is an exciting time for our City’s future. There are so many impactful initiatives taking place that boldly articulate San Antonio as a sustainable community —  from a rise in green buildings and infill development  that help revitalize neighborhoods to expanded water conservation techniques and the use of community gardens.” said Mayor Ron Nirenberg. “We are excited to showcase all of the work that’s happening here.”

SA Tomorrow is a three-plan approach to guide San Antonio toward smart, sustainable growth with efforts to preserve our resources and quality of life. The initiative aims to address issues of importance to the entire community including air and water quality, energy efficiency, transportation, jobs and housing through the following plans: the Comprehensive Plan, the Sustainability Plan and the Multimodal Transportation Plan. The City has expanded the timeframe of eligible projects and structures initiated or constructed between Jan. 1, 2010 and Dec. 31, 2016.
